Passive ProxSecurity System

The Way It Works

The Passive ProxSecurity System™ is installed on the computer and the Passive Prox (HID Prox II or equivalent) badges are assigned to the individual users. The proximity distance is set for the particular computer. Each badge is registered to a user and the badge to the Passive ProxSecurity System™. When the system is activated, any attempt to deactivate the Passive ProxSecurity System™ by means of removing the RF receiver or stepping through the bios renders the computer inoperable (until the device is reattached).

When no active users are within the range of the reader, the system is locked. The keyboard and mouse cease to function and the monitor is blanked out. As an authorized user (via the Passive Prox badge) approaches the computer, the computer senses the badge and verifies the badge is valid for this particular computer. The Passive ProxSecurity System™ validates the badge as registered on this computer and the user is allowed to enter the system.

When the user leaves the proximity of the computer, the system locks immediately regardless of any activity on the system (such as someone jumping on the system and typing away on the keyboard).

If a different authorized user approaches the computer and logs in, the computer will log the new user in as a new user. The previous user is logged out. If the same user returns to the computer, they are returned to the point they were at when they were on the computer.

Since the system is locked when an authorized user is not in the vicinity, the Passive ProxSecurity System™ is ideal for computers located in areas where non-authorized persons are located. The system is also ideal for the health care environment as this system assists health care facilities to comply with the HIPAA regulations

For organizations that currently use door access badges to gain entrance to the facility and wish to control access to computers located within the organization. With the Passive ProxSecurity System™ this can be accomplished utilizing a single card for both physical access & computer access control.
